Travel to Hobart for the weekend. Take Fiona to combine some work and play. Attended ICT conference run by renowned American educator Jamie McKenzie at Moorilla winery just outside of Hobart........absolutely terrible place!!! We had a great time and learnt something too! Went to Salamanca markets on Sat morning before heading to Richmond for some history and more wineries along the way. A lovely weekend in windy Hobart.

St Augustine's ICT PD

I began this week working with the Year 5 and 6 teachers in the Middle School at St Augustine's College Brookvale. This week I met Matthew (Yr 6) and James (Yr5) and we sat down one on one to plan their individual program. We looked at the ease of hyperlinking in documents and some of the best educational sites on the internet. Both strike me as excellent teachers and are really keen to push ahead with using technology in the classroom. Some homework was set for them to practice using hyperlinking, as well as setting up their own blog to journal their reflections and post information. A great beginning. Additionally I met with the IT Committee to thrash out some ideas on developing the new Learning Centre. Went to visit Stella Maris to get some ideas on classroom layout.

Term 2 Week 2

Completed my first week as a K-6 ICT teacher working with Loreto College Junior School. I will be working 2 days a week over next 2 terms with each class integrating technology into the teaching programs. This is a great challenge as I come from 10 years secondary school experience background. The technology ideas will be easy, but adjusting to the students levels will be the most immediate challenge for me. The first week teaching has been a rich learning curve that I will write about the next few months. Currently I am working through the individual Units of Work that each Year level has for the form, looking at the best projects and activities where we can utilise the power of technology. I have found the Junior School environment a breath of fresh air and the staff very warm and welcoming. I begin my first contract with St Augustines Brookvale working with Middle School Staff implementing an ICT Professional Learning Program over next two terms so that should be very interesting too.
